The Courier-MailTOOWOOMBA has been dubbed the "most racist city in Australia" right after a screen of 9 golliwog dolls appeared at a Terry White Chemist retailer in Clifford Gardens.
The dolls have been positioned beneath a signal inviting shoppers to 𠇎xperience a white Xmas”, in a move that’s been slammed by Indigenous activists where to buy wine.
Writer and activist Stephen Hagan, who famously campaigned against the “N*gger Brown Stand” in 1999, explained the display was offensive.
“Toowoomba is the most racist metropolis in Australia,” he advised the Sunshine Coast Daily.
“Words can’t describe this behaviour in the twenty first century. I can recognize it in the nineteen sixties but to do it right now is inexcusable.”
The shop’s Handling Associate Alwyn Baumann supplied an “unreserved apology” in a statement, saying the retailer experienced produced a “regrettable error” with the exhibit dolls, which they will “not stock in foreseeable future” where to buy wine online.
A spokesman for the store clarified the connection amongst the dolls and the sign was entirely unintended.
Golliwogs are considered offensive due to their heritage as a blackface motif, in which men and women of colour are depicted as comically idiotic and as plantation slaves.
